In 1987 George Schmidbauer purchased a piece of property from Middlebrook in Nacogdoches, TX. The property had a non-operational planing mill and planing shed on it with solid bones to build upon. George built the sawmill from the ground up and Cal-Tex was created.

George owned multiple mills in Northern California but saw business opportunity in East Texas due to the abundance of timber and hard working employees. George continues to live in Northern California but still visits and consults multiple times a year. With over 70 years of experience in the industry, he is a titan of the lumber industry.

Cal-Tex is currently owned and operated by George's daughter Susie Patterson. Multiple upgrades have been implemented since 1987 and Cal-Tex is more committed than ever to producing quality specialty products using the most efficient methods in the industry.
