In 1987, George Schmidbauer purchased a piece of property from Middlebrook in Nacogdoches, TX. Though the land featured a non-operational planing mill and shed, its solid structure provided the foundation for growth. From there, George built the sawmill from the ground up, establishing Cal-Tex Lumber Company.
With decades of experience running multiple mills in Northern California, George recognized the business opportunities in East Texas, thanks to its abundant timber resources and hardworking workforce. While George continues to live in Northern California, he remains closely involved, visiting and consulting several times a year. With over 70 years in the industry, George Schmidbauer is regarded as a titan of the lumber industry.
Today, Cal-Tex Lumber Company is proudly owned and operated by George's daughter, Susie Patterson. The company credits its long-standing success to the loyalty, commitment, and expertise of its dedicated team. Cal-Tex's leadership believes that this team is the cornerstone of its growth and achievement.
At Cal-Tex, we continuously explore new processes, systems, and technological advancements to ensure our customers receive the most professional and profitable experience. We remain committed to providing the highest quality lumber to local, state, and national manufacturers and retailers.
